Frequency Separation Photoshop Actions by SparkleStock

Frequency separation is a retouching technique to give skin an airbrushed look. These actions lets you do it faster and easier.

Loading the Actions

  1. Doubleclick on the ATN file.
  2. In Photoshop, open the Actions panel (Window > Actions). You'll find the actions here.
  3. To switch to Button mode, click on the panel menu located near the top-right corner and select "Button Mode".

Using the Actions

  1. Select the AutoRetouch action then click the play button near the bottom of the panel. You can also select the Frequency Separation actions to manually retouch.
  2. If you did not use the AutoRetouch action, paint over the skin area to reveal the airbrushed effect.
  3. In the Layers panel (Window > Layers), adjust the layer group opacity.
  4. Inside the layer group, you'll find two layers and two filters. Doubleclick on the filters to edit. The High Pass filter is responsible for the skin details. The Surface Blur filter is responsible for the skin softness.

Note

These actions use special techniques which are only available in Photoshop CC. They are not compatible with older versions of Photoshop (ex. Photoshop CS6) or Photoshop Elements.
